there was an article in the latest midrange computing about those kind of 
sorts, and using forced fields.  some really
cool ways to do it, with the yy field only.

i don't quite understand what you want to do - like your example here would 
never happen, right?  (it would never be
greater than 99, cause 00 is next!)
