Alex, News400 published an article in the December98 issue which walks you
through the data importing process.  If I'm not mistaken, the article
should still be out on their web page at

The instructions are quite clear and very easy to follow.

Client access will transfer directly to Excel format.  If you choose to
create .FDF (file definition file){the default}, you can also transfer _to_
the AS/400 if the need is there.  Also look at Excel VB script that lets
you "get" AS/400 database records directly from AS/400 (just a more concise
interface to the CA data transfer "engine").

Could anybody give suggestion on transferring an AS400 Database File to
PC in EXCEL or ACCESS format?
