Oh crud.  Nevermind.

Apparantly, Hayes has just gone out of business, so I'm sure I'll never get the 
hayes modem to autosync.

Anyone know of an alternative to hayes modems that will do autosync?  I need a 
PCMCIA card...

says: 'Optima 336/56k Upgradeable', with model number 4715US on the back.

The hayes windows inf file lists several:
Hayes-Optima 56K PC Card
Hayes-Optima 336 Flash PC Card 4715US
Hayes-Optima 336 Flash PC Card 4716US
Hayes-Optima 56K PC Card 4700US
Hayes-Optima 56K PC Card 4710US

Also, does anyone know of a reliable autosync pcmcia modem other than Hayes?  I 
wasn't particularly happy opening the box and finding no manual!
