Albert,

If you create a controller and specify the Model Controller parameter,
(MDLCTL) to *YES, other controllers automatically created for the same line
will have the same values, (for timers and retry counts, etc). This only
applies to APPC controllers on Tokenring, Ethernet, DDI and Wireless.

See the following, taken from OS/400 Communications Configuration, and I
quote...

2.4.2.60 MDLCTL (Model controller)

APPC Controllers: Specifies whether this controller description is to be
used as a model controller for
automatically created controller descriptions associated with the line
description specified on the SWTLINLST parameter.

Model controller descriptions are used to specify values (such as timers
and retry counts) to be used in automatically created controller
descriptions. Model controller descriptions can exist for Token-Ring
network, DDI, Ethernet, or wireless line descriptions that specify
AUTOCRTCTL(*YES). If a model controller exists, the values specified in the
model controller description override the system-supplied defaults for new
controller descriptions that are automatically created.

Possible values are *YES or *NO; *NO is the default. MDLCTL(*YES) can be
specified only if APPN(*YES) and LINKTYPE(*LAN) are also specified.

If MDLCTL(*YES) and both CNNCPNAME and CNNNETID parameters are specified,
this controller description is used to define the connection network.

See the APPN Support book for more information about model controllers and
APPN connection networks.

You can change this parameter when the controller is varied off using the
CHGCTLAPPC command.
