system answering message by itself

I have something interesting happening on one of our clients S/400's. I
have heard of this happening before, but can't remember the
cause/solution.

Recently, the system has begun to answer messages by itself. For
instance, the CPA4002, "verify alignment in printer XX" is automatically
being answered with an "I", instead of going to the writers message
queue and waiting to be answered by the user. Also, things like RPG0121
"array index is not valid", the system answers with a "C" to cancel the
program. I know no-one is answering these message manually because I
test starting the writers, and running the programs that get these array
errors occasionally, and the messages just get answered.

We have done things like this in the past using reply list entries, but
I checked that and there are no entries for these message numbers. I
know there is another way to have the system automatically answer all
messages with the default reply, but I can't for the life of me remember
what the method is.

Now, I know I didn't do it, unless I am having a total brain melt-down.
The problem is, there are enough outside consultants, and the new CFO
with the buddy from his old company's MIS department, that someone may
think they are doing a good thing. Of course no-one admits to doing
anything or knowing what happened, but I need to fix this. If it makes
any difference, it is a model 300 on V3R0M5. (I know, I know, we are
working on getting them upgraded to a RISC and Y2K compliant machine).
