<html><div>To the best of my knowledge, IBM's Workstation Gateway does
not provide for ANY data encryption of information (including userid /
password).&nbsp; This puts it in the same class as Telnet in terms of
security (if you're concerned).&nbsp; There are several third party
packages which provide much higher levels of security and user interface
than Workstation Gateway.</div>
<br>
<div>You can solve the encryption problem in one of two ways.&nbsp; You
either use a product which supports an appropriate (for you) level of
encryption or you buy a firewall product which includes a client module
that encrypts traffic between your remote users &amp; the
firewall.</div>
<br>
<div>Encrypting products would include I/NET Webulator, CST Jacada, or
LANSA for the Web for example.&nbsp; For that matter, you could even use
Client Access for TCP/IP in conjunction with an encrypting firewall
cleint (the AS/400 firewall doesn't do this!).&nbsp; At that point, it
all comes down to the user interface that you want to provide to your
users (Terminal, Web html, or web java).</div>
<br>
<div>For more information, you can check out the AS/400 remote access
&amp; Internet security links at:</div>

<div>&gt;Rich Send this to your buddies,</div>
<div>&gt;</div>
<div>&gt;The AS/400 has the Workstation GATEWAY product. I have never
used it but it</div>
<div>&gt;should provide you access to the AS/400. Also the AS/400 can now
act as a</div>
<div>&gt;Proxy server / firewall so you can attach the AS/400 with
confidence.</div>
<div>&gt;Telnet is problably not the choice you would want to leave
open..</div>
<div>&gt;It's out there , you just have to find it..</div>
