As you say one of the biggest problems with the As/400 is peoples perception
of it been an "old" machine.

The functionality that is available today through the As/400, in my opinion
in second to none, its one of the most robust platforms that I have ever
seen, and the future looks great, if IBM could market the box to the wider
audience then the non believer might just be converted.

Nick
(as you can tell I love the As/400 !!.)

:::I agree with the comments below. I'm sort of a newbie to the 400 (4
years)

to
:::with other systems I am familiar with (Unix, RS6000, VMS). It's a
:::workhorse. This belief was enhanced when I recently spoke with a college
:::buddy who is both a "software specialist" and network manager (Novell)
for a
:::hospital. I was trying to get her to consider coming on board and when I
:::mentioned the 400, she was totally convinced it was "a dead machine and
:::archaic".

MOST of us on this list are pro-AS/400. That's a given.

Although I did mentioned the AS/400's "down" points -- let's not be
religious
about this, it DOES have a few negatives -- it is, in my opinion, THE
business
machine.

Because the AS/400 has been around for 10+ years, it is perceived as old. It
has changed with the time quite well, but most people don't know this.
That's
too bad.

Peace,
