I personally intend to retire early, say around 55.  My wife and I started
saving for our retirement as soon as we left college.  At one time, we were
putting her salary (pre-tax) into savings.  This has resulted in a tidy sum
with the good market.  Saving is more difficult now with her not bringing
home a paycheck, but not impossible.  Adherence to a strict budget and
discipline are carrying the day.
