I assume that the "other programmer" was among those who predicted the
demise of COBOL back in the 1960s (and 70s and 80s and ...) One can only
assume that Micro Focus (and other COBOL vendors) have been cooking their
books ever since then since they appear to be quite profitable on paper.
<grin>

I'm quite sure that Hans Boldt, George Farr, Barbara Morris and the others
in the RPG development crew will be interested to know that IBM is not
planning to enhance RPG further - I suspect that they think they have quite
a few years work left ahead of them. It's OK guys - forget all that stuff
you were working on for future releases, it apparently isn't needed.

Undoubtedly you should start looking at Java - it is important and will
likely grow in importance with the years. But, to say that RPG is going
away is puerile nonsense. Not only that but RPG IV can work as a learning
vehicle to make the transition to Java easier. Or does you colleague also
think that learning Java is simply a matter of learning new syntax - if so,
boy is (s)he in for a shock!

Sorry if I am being overly sarcastic, but comments like the ones from your
colleague just get right up my nose!
