IBM has announced that a version of their flagship DB2 database product will
be available for Linux for free by March 1999. This is a sensational to move
DB2 into the mainstream. DB2, of course, is a fantastic database, but it's
also a platform that is difficult to get a lot of experience on because it's
so high end. By giving it away on Linux, mind you minus the parallel and
clustering technology, IBM ensures a healthy base of knowledge in DB2. Read
