this reminded me of a situation we ran up against a couple of months ago.

one of the indian tribes here in oklahoma was moving off their system 36, and
had
an as/400 quote. they were all set to move forward, and gave us a call to do
the
migration. our other programmer is indian, and a member of the tribe. we
thought
it was a done deal.

well, nothing came of it, and several weeks later, willie called them. well,
they
made the desision to go to a novell network. they had 30 twinax devices, and
were
told that the as/400 would cost an additional $80,000 because of that!

we tried to talk to them, told them that could be worked around to keep them in
the original config (i never saw it, we didn't do it), but the manager was so
ticked off he decided to jettison ibm.

i've heard from several people that the indian tribes have 'tons' of money, and
when quoting an indian project, to go high. i suspect the company that did the
quote on the hardware bought into that line, and well, that's one less as/400
customer.
