We bring our AS/400's down every 8 weeks. During that time we
apply any cum tapes, if available. We download SF98vrm for the
appropriate Version, Release and Modification level. We apply
any PTF's mentioned in SF98vrm. And, yes, we do have machines
at V3R2, V3R7, V4R2 and higher. We perform the above steps on
each of these machines. And yet we repeatedly hear IBM recommending
to us that we reboot our AS/400's.

Went to a LUG meeting this week. Topic was announcements and
upcoming stuff from IBM. IBM rep said that he was using us as a
test of his speech for a larger group. In his speech he started
talking about AS/400 reliability. He asked how many of you
experienced unexpected downtime. After the show of hands he
remarked that he wasn't going to ask that question at the next
presentation of his speech.

We're running V4R2M0, and have been rock solid for several months now. Are you
current on PTFs? There were a couple of bad problems with servers early on in
V4R2, but AFAIK, that's all been fixed.
