What kind of hardware switch are you referring to?

 For the SNA users the systems will both have the same addressing so that they 
will lose their
sessions, but will come back up on the backup system as soon as the hadware 
switch is thrown (and
this should happen automatically.)
 The the TCP/IP users you can either change the DNS or you can switch to a 
backup DNS that as the
address of the backup system rather than the primary.  And if the 400 is the 
DNS you probably do
want to switch to a backup anyway because of the failure is bad enough to drob 
DB access chances are
good the DNS is or must go down anyway.
