Yes it's possible the system clock was correct at one point and drifted
off over time.
What can cause this to happen to a greater degree would be if you have
a defective system clock and have done quite a few IPL's (I believe the
400 gets the time from the system clock only during IPL - it doesn't
adjust it while the system is up and running). SO - on top of
everything else you may want to have the clock checked or replaced (I
think it's part of the control panel, and there's a small battery that
keeps it running when the system is down - unless of course the control
panel itself is replaced when the system is down. In the past this has
caused MUCHO trouble for users who found their system date went back to
something like 08/28/40 after maintenance was performed on their
system, but that has now SUPPOSEDLY been fixed by forcing a prompt for
date/time even during an unattended IPL IF the system clock has been
disconnected.

Subject: System Time

Our system time was slow by 2 minutes and it cause a trade to fail.
 We
loss thousands of dollars. We change our system time only twice a year
 for
daylight savings time. Is it possible that we could have had the right
time
at one point and the clock on the AS/400 is slow like a regular watch
when
it no longer functions properly? I think our operators must have put
the
wrong time to begin with on QTIME system value. Does anyone dial to
the
national observatory to set the right time on their system?

Thanks in advance,

Wanda Torres
