Don:
Do you have MS Office on that machine by any chance?  When you install MS
Office, the folks at MS decided that you need to have a utility called Find
Fast in your start up folder.  This utility does some indexing that allows
you to find documents fast in Office.  It periodically runs and you will see
disk activity and it does look at your floppy drive.  As far as I can tell,
you don't need it and should remove it from your start up folder.  If that
is not it, perhaps you should do a virus scan your system.
