An exit program is any program which is registered to be executed at a
predefined point (exit point) in a process, using a published interface. On the
AS/400, exit programs are typically used to examine requests to manipulate
system resources or objects, and return a go/no-go indicator which either
allows or disallows the requested action. They can also be used to perform
other processing, such as logging, notification, initialization or even
database updates. Each exit point has a call interface with published
parameters. Exit programs can be used to approve or disapprove FTP, Telnet,
SQL, native database and many other types of transactions. Third party vendors
can register their own exit points too.
