  • Subject: What is the best way to round a number in SQL?

SQL experts,

After reading the posts about the rounding in RPG, I thought of a situation we
had a few months back where we needed to round a value in SQL. The only
mention I could find of rounding in the SQL manuals was when converting to
decimal from float. And that apparently only happens when the decimal field is
greater than 31 positions. The fields we were dealing with were numeric with
two decimal positions. The solution I came up with was to apply a statement
like the one that follows.

SELECT DECIMAL(((DECIMAL(SUM(NumFld),11,2) -
DECIMAL(SUM(NumFld),9,0)) / .5),11,0) + DECIMAL(SUM(NumFld),9,0) FROM File

It did slow down the processing but in this case it wasn't a concern. Does
anyone know a more straight forward way to round a number in SQL?

Thanks,

David Morris
