  • Subject: trouble in printing through parallel port in as/400

Dear Sir,

We are using a V4R1 AS/400 machine in our organization. We take bulk
reports daily through a network of printers. We have a printing solution
called RPM/400(Remote Printer Manager) software which acts as a QSERVER
and routes entries to each printer. Through RPM/400 we have created
remote queues and are able to print our reports from remote places. All
one has to do is to simply create a out queue in AS/400 with a suitable
emulation. Load the printer driver in the PC and create an OUTQ of the
same name in library QUSRSYS in RPM/400. Through RPM/400 we are able to
compress our printing and use different CPIs.

Our problem arises here, whenever we create a local
printer(i.e. a printer attached to the parallel port) and take print
outs, all our print outs come in landscape format. We have tried
different options in CA printer set up, but still we get our print outs
in landscape format. For configuring a printer through parallel port we
had created a seperate printing session using netsoft router. Thus the
printer writer starts only when the session is started. Here too we
encounter problems as after creating a session for printing, the
particular writer is started, but when we spool the file a second time,
the writer ends automatically, hence we start a seperate second printing
session and after doing this, the writer starts, I don't know why this
happens and also it is practically impossible to create seperate
sessions for each printing job as this process is tedious. Thus when we
do'nt use RPM/400, we get all our print outs in landscape mode, though
we have changed our printer setup to portrait mode.

I will be obliged if any one helps me in solving this problem. I would
also appreciate if details of creating and configuring a printer device
are provided in detail.

My second problem is this, while giving the command CRTDEVPRT, there is
an option for manufacturer model, but the printer which we are using is
not any of those listed in there. Is there any way of getting our
printer into the manufacturer model prompt (We use a TALLY printer) or
should I use a IBM proprinter emulation? please help me

my mail id is prakashsubramani@hotmail.com
