Some of this may be obvious Ken, but you have to start somewhere.
1. do a WRKHDWRSC *CMN and verify the LIN041 is an ethernet adapter.
2. What type of cabling are you using? If you have an older card, you only
have a 15 pin Thick ethernet and you will need an Ethernet transciver, be
sure it is attached tight.
3. If you have a 600 or 620 I belive you can hook a 10 base T cable
directly to the card, be sure the cable is good (get a cable pair tester if
you don't already have one, it is work the little bit of money they cost).
Also, I think the 600 and 620 cards have a 10 base T pig tail, be sure to
use it. I believe you also need to be hooked up to a hub.
4. You can also go into hardware Service manager in System Service Tools
(STRSST you need *SERVICE authority), and check to see if you have any
failed or not reporting hardware.
5. Who installed the card? did it come with the machine? Once I put a card
in a 620 (all PCI bus, ssshhhhh, don't tell IBM) and trying to figure out
WHERE to put the card (the flow chart use to determine the proper slot was
complicated) took longer than it did to open up the machine and put the card
in.

I hope some of this helps, if not get IBM to come out and test the card.
The failuer of the line to go to a CONNECT PENDING status, sounds to me that
it is NOT a configureation problems (except for maybe the LIND).

Also, be sure you start TCP/IP. STRTCP and be sure you have defined an
interface for the lind, under CFGTCP option 1.

Good luck,
Carl

Subject: TCP/IP w/Ethernet

|Hi All,
|
|I am having a problem with configuring TCP/IP over Ethernet. I created
|the line, and allowed autocreation of the device and controller. The
|line was created as follows:
|
| Name : ETHTCP
| Resource Name : LIN041
| Online @ IPL : *YES
| Vary on Wait : *NOWAIT
| Network Controller : ETHTCNET
| Local Adapter Addr : *ADPT
| Exchange ID : 056B0657
| Ethernet Standard : *ALL
| Maximum Controllers : 40
| Error Threshold : *OFF
| Text: : TCP Ethernet Line
|
|The controller is set to the following:
|
| Name : ETHTCNET
| Category of Controller : *NET
| Attached Line : ETHTCP
| Online @ IPL : *NO
|
|The device is set to the following:
|
| Name : ETHTCTCP
| Category of Device : *NET
| Device Type : *TCPIP
| Online @ IPL : *NO
| Attached Controller : ETHTCNET
|
|I have also configured an IP address using this Ethernet line
|description.
|
|My problem is that I cannot get the Ethernet line to vary on. The line
|immediately goes to a RCYPND status. I get message, in message queue
|QSYSOPR, CPA58EE - Line ETHTCP failed. Probable cabling or hardware
|problem. The connection to the local area network failed.
|Part of the problem maybe that I am working remotely and am unable to
|verify the cabling and things of that nature. I suggestions to the
|cause and resolution of this issue would be greatly appreciated.
