  • Subject: "Best" Unity I UPS

Hi folks !

Anyone using a Best Unity I UPS ?

We have a 620 and we had a MAJOR problem here this week (the UPS failed)
and are still working with Best to get it fixed...

They apparently contract support out, which I don't have a problem with
that, but they were SUPPOSED to have shipped the parts out yesterday and
that didn't happen. They are shipping overnight to arrive tomorrow. THEN
the service guy has to come out and we can only HOPE that they sent
EVERY part in the thing and he can fix it in one trip. We have been told
to expect 4-5 hours for the work...

I'm new here and they said that this UPS (which was installed last
November) had a massive failure shortly after it was put in and had to
have all kinds of work done to it. Needless to say, my confidence in
this thing is NOT good.

I have not contacted Best yet, as my co-hort here placed the service
call. I have a name and number of a person at Best to discuss this with
from the VAR that sold us the AS/400 and the UPS...

I have NEVER heard anything bad about Best UPS's so I am wondering if we
have a lemon or something. Anyone else out there using this model ? We
have a Best Ferrups Series FE that has been here for some time and works
GREAT (unfortunately it is hard wired...).

NOW for the HORROR STORY !!!

The UPS failed some time on Sunday AND the plug at the end of the power
cord on the Best Unity I is a different size than the one on the end of
the AS/400's power cord - NO WAY to plug the AS/400 directly into
utility power... LUCKILY this is not a Production machine (yet) - we are
in the processing of converting from an NCR Unix machine - but this IS
causing a clog in training and development activities.

And, yes, I have had an electrical contractor out today and we WILL have
an outlet to plug the AS/400 in directly should this happen again. I am
SO glad I am discovering this stuff NOW and not latter !!!

Thanks for any information!

Chuck
