I agree.  What about a PFILE keyword.

FDATAFILE  IF  E   ....        
FDATAFILE2 IF  E   ....          PFILE(LIB/DATAFILE) RENAME(REC:REC2)

Very simple to implement.  No CL program required just to compile the
program.  No wasted time or effort.

How about it IBM ?
