  • Subject: Re: SLIP Connection and KFLEX modems - was a modem bug !

John:

I must admit I was skeptical that the modem worked for everything except SLIP
but I
am not making it up. My email vendor (Keyes Mail, great product) first
suggested it
about kflex modems in general. My ISP was also skeptical, but after the
previously
mentioned persuasive arguements contacted his modem vendor, Lucent
technologies. I
don't know what model modem he was on but he said firmware level 15 did not
support
SLIP but level 17 did. As a followup to the story, the fix that worked for SLIP
broke the connection for other customers. Aint technology grand. I'm back
dialing
in to their old modem until Lucent can come up with an answer that satisfies
everyone. Of course, the ISP asked why I don't just use PPP and I had to answer
that IBM will charge me an arm and a leg for both software and hardware to
upgrade
my computer (RISC model 400, V3R7) to have what every PC can handle with ease.
(If
this is not true, please correct me with the relevant details). Naturally I will
budget for this for next year (sigh).

Thanks for your interest.
