Thanks for your suggestion.  I neglected to mention that I did purchase
a kflex modem.  Actually, its a Hayes V.90 that also does kflex (my
current understanding is that these are different).  Unfortunately, the
results are exactly the same.

Your comments are intruiging.  I don't know what you mean by MNP error
correction, if you could give me some guidance in this area, I'd
appreciate it.
