Bob,

Like you, I was under the impression that CPYF ignored overrides, so I checked 
the data management guide for V3R1. There is a section entitled "Effect of 
Overrides on Some System Commands". It lists all of the commands that ignore 
overrides entirely. CPYF is not listed. This same manual also states that 
OVRDBF will be ignored for the TOFILE parameter of CPYF when CRTFILE(*YES) is 
also specified, which explains why CPYF did not complain about copying a file 
to itself.
