My question is what does one gain by having one terminal support 4 AS/400's?  
The only benefit I see is desk space.  Cost is not really that much of a 
factor.  You can buy a used terminal for $200-$300 dollars.  They are really 
getting cheap as people move to PC's and NC's.  Our AS/400's and their consoles 
are in a separate room.  Nobody stays in that room for any length of time 
except during scheduled downtimes.  Since the AS/400 is no S/36 you can check 
system messages from anywhere.  To me the cost of a terminal is cheap compared 
to the worry of what might happen when you flip switch boxes during a software 
upgrade.  Or, not being able to monitor all consoles during a scheduled 
downtime, as you look up from your Midrange Computing or News/400 magazine.
