One book that I liked for getting programmers new to the 400 a general idea was
the book from IBM SC21-9852 'Application Programming: Application Development
by Example'. Although they haven't published this for many many releases. I
have an old photocopy of it from V1R2.

Perhaps you could go to a college bookstore and find a used copy of RPG
textbooks there. I would recommend a community college. They're more
responsive to the local business community. Over a decade and a half ago when
I left the 'university' I was unimpressed with their punch cards and long lines
in front of the computer equipment. Then I went to a community college and got
all the terminal time I wanted, with no lines, on the System 34.

I like the ATS courses - we have many of them here. I haven't tried them but
the folks at midrange computing peddle books. I think they seem kind of pricy,
but again, I haven't looked at them to see if it is a 'you get what you pay
for' issue. Coworkers have used one of Cozzi's books from long ago. Perhaps
you work for someone with a zero training budget and you have to purchase out
of your own pocket. Luckily I don't have that situation here. I realize,
personally, that money is tight and we all live on a budget but perhaps you
need to invest in yourself. The payback could be in keeping your job or
getting a raise. Can you get this from your cable TV bill?

I don't know if any of the AS/400 magazine web sites have back issues online.
Perhaps many years ago they ran a series on RPG programming for Cobol
programmers or some such thing.

There is always the IBM manuals. You should have them on CD or you can get
them at the site:
