You mention 5394's... I JUST HAPPENED to come across a document I had created
"years ago" when we were going from V2R3 to V3R1 and I was requesting updated
micro code from IBM for the 5394's per something in the upgrade instructions. I
am at home now and this is on our network at work. If you need it, let me know
and I can get it on Tuesday.

This was DEFINITELY something needed to go to V3R1 so you would need it to go
above that too...

And don't dismiss what Al is saying lightly (no offense to anyone else !!), but
he knows of what he speaks and sticking to the Road Map when going through the
jump from CISC/V3R1 to RISC/V3R6 was VERY IMPORTANT  - I don't envy you having 
to
make the jump you are doing, but you CERTAINLY don't want to miss anything !!!
