Chuck,

  You may already know that the 3590 is 'dual ported' that is two
AS/400's can be connected at one time, although only one may be in use.

  Re: your question on distance, I have installed 3590's in two customer
shops with 100 ft IBM cables (No idea on cost) So if the two AS/400's
are within about 200 ft you can put the 3590 in the middle.

  I doubt you could go beyond that.
