Trying to catch up on my reading, I came across this statement in LAN Times
(Sept. 15, 1997):

"During the last year, IBM has embraced the use of JAVA in nearly all of
its business units, from its Lotus Development Corp. software division to
big-iron groups that produce stodgy hardware such as the AS/400."

The perception that the AS/400 is "stodgy" and belongs in the "big-iron" pot
seems to me to reinforce what's been said on this list about IBM's lack of
marketing for the 400.
