I recently switched from using Client Access connected via twinax & Netsoft
router to Client Access using Ethernet and TCP/IP to connect to our
9404-200. For the longest time I heard how much faster I would be able to
connect without having to use the dreaded Netsoft router. With a twinax
connection, double-clicking on the desktop-created icon took about 1 minute
to get a signon screen. (Using Client Access V3R1M3 with current service
pack). When I switched to TCP/IP, I wiped client access completely from the
machine (Pentium 166MMX with 48MB RAM) and reinstalled and applied the
service pack. I was a little disappointed to discover that it took roughly
the same amount of time to get a signon screen via TCP/IP and Ethernet(60
seconds). But, I didn't think too much of it. I've now tried a couple of
plain old Telnet clients, and I get to a sign on screen on THE SAME MACHINE,
within ONE SECOND. WHAT GIVES HERE??? Is there THAT much overhead with
Client Access ? Is there a configuration issue here I'm overlooking...
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
