I agree different questions for each shop.  My favorite question was "What
is your recovery if you vary off the console when you bring up the system
in a restricted state"

Also I liked to find out if a operator just knows menus and not what is
happening behind the menus. (ex saves)

I ask questions to judge the similarity of their past environment(s) to
ours.
The skills you develop as Sys. Admin, for a one AS/400 shop using dumb
terminals
are much different from those you develop running multiple 400's over a
LAN!
