Anything's possible.  You could watch the call stack of certain system
jobs or purchases software to watch for APIs.  But then you'd have the
problem of figuring out what parameters are needed, if it uses a users
space, etc.

I'd definatly use the manual for APIs.  A lot of them have hidden values
for parameters, format of data, error code meanings, etc.
