Jerry Meddick has an opportunity to quote on Y2K remediation for an RS/6000
running CTMS COBOL. I have few problems dealing with the source on the AS/400.
However, getting the source from the RS/6000 to the AS/400 has turned into a
chore. The techie at the client site could do one of three things: (1) back up
the 1000+ source files to EBCDIC on a 9 track tape or 3480 one at a time
manually; (2) use cpio to back them all up in a group; or (3) use tar to back
them all up in a group. The problems are (1) is too much trouble for them to
go through, and (2)&(3) provide media that the AS/400 can't read. If you have
a technical solution that will work, contact Jerry Meddick at 609-596-1028.

· On another front, I was trying to tie two AS/400's together via passthru.
Only the remote system in Long Island has a non-ECS modem that defaults to
asynchronous mode rather than the synchronous mode that we usually use. So, I
couldn't get theirs to dial out to ours, nor could I get theirs to answer
synchronously when I dialed into their system. Got a solution? Get in touch
with Jerry Meddick at 609-596-1028.
