It was an elective in the Jr high I went to...got up to a whole 45wpm on an IBM
Selectric..own one still.

Figured it was a good idea to get ready to do high school/college term papers.
I think the biggest benefit started with the 029? (80 col) card punch and every
other keyboard since.

BTW, for some reason I can type faster at a PC then I do at a typewriter...don't
know why...
