I had told them to disable all sound cards and anything else using the COM

they are almost 1,000 miles away from you ! :-) I think we'll have to ask
them to send us their MPCA card and we'll have to try to get it working here to
see.
I know last time I tried this with CA/400 for Win/95 (about 2 years ago) I
could never get a 7852 modem to dial out with an SDLC connection (after
disabling sound card, twinax card, Ethernet card, and internal modem). I did
have success getting the PC to answer a phone call when initiated from the 400
side, and I was able to get a 7855 modem to dial on the PC end, but never a
7852.
Dear Neil,
The setup file you need is named IBMSDLC.INF and is shipped as part of Client
Access for 95/NT. If you look at the file, you will see that it offers only one
configuration choice for the W95 PC. The adapter's IRQ must be 3 and its I/O
address must be 380. The hardware of the IBM card is able to support more IRQ's
and I/O address ranges than the values listed in the Client Access information
file.
I recently had a conflict between a sound card that was hardwired to use only
I/O address 380 and an MPCA adapter. Since the documentation with the card
listed support for alternative I/O addresses, I contacted IBM to ask whether
the SDLC driver built into Client Access could work with the card set to a
different I/O address than 380.
The response that I received from IBM was that the driver built into Client
Access can only work with the adapter at the settings listed in the IBMSDLC.INF
file. It is not possible to use the adapter at any other setting with the
Client Access driver (if you attempt to experiment, you will usually receive an
adapter not found message).
An easy way to see the condition of the PC you are working with is to print the
W95 resources report. To print the report, you need to execute the following
steps:
1. Press the start button and highlight settings. Next, choose Control Panel.
2. From the Control Panel options highlight System and double click.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. Press the radio button named Print...
5. Move the black dot from System Summary to the selection All devices and
system summary.
6. Press the OK radio button to print the report on a printer. If you would
like the report to be printed as a file, click in the box Print to file before
pressing the radio button. A ( will appear in the Print to file box which means
the feature is enabled. When you then press the OK radio button, the system
will prompt you for the name of the file you want to create and will let you
pick the destination directory where you want the file to be saved.
The customer could fax/e-mail the information to you and you could verify that
the resources specified by the Client Access *.inf file are actually available
before having the customer send you the MPCA adapter.

HTH,

/Paul
