OK IP gurus (Vernon are you listening?)
I had a weird one today at a client's.
I tried to config IP (no anynet) on an AS400. I have done this many times
with no problems. But today was different. I was connected with a laptop
and a PCMCIA ethernet card, cat 5 wire connected to a 10baseT hub. For my
testing I was directly connected to the hub with a 5 ft' patch cable. The
AS400 is two feet from the hub. I could PING the machine just fine,
however when I tried to start a telnet or ftp client, they would lock up.
I tried using the Mochasoft TN5250 client that someone has mentioned here
and the Windows Telnet client. They both did the same thing. Both gave me
that AS400 signon screen (sometimes, othertimes they did not). But when I
was able to signon the screen locked up. Usually this happened when just
keying a command. It seemed that if I typed really SLOW, it helped. In
order to eliminate the AS400 config of the client software I tried to dial
the AS400 TCPIP via a SLIP connection and that consistantly worked fine.
Any ideas??
TIA,
Carl
