Al,
ManDATE/2000 does good data analysis by testing every field for every date
format you tell it to look for.   It tests as many records as you specify and
reports percentages of valid data for different formats.  It seems to find all
the fields based on the data in the files.  It costs $4,000 max and interfaces
to BYPASS if you don't want to use its update capability.

We've only done an evaluation, but it looked very good.  I don't have the info
with me right now, but I think the company is J. Damon & Co. and it is listed
on IBM's Y2K links.
