I have programmed in quite a few languages myself. I find nothing wrong with
RPG and haven't yet been asked for something I couldn't do with it. 

When the application server is an AS/400, I think that you need to consider
RPG. Certainly, there are reasons for switching to Java, but Java won't be
released for a few more months and thus really shouldn't be counted on for
several months (probably a year). 

Aside from language bigotry, I can't see any reason to prefer another
language over RPG on an AS/400. ILE is a big boost for RPG, and also a big
departure.

Hmm, I know an excellant programmer who prefers RPG _because_ it is column
oriented. I guess this is a matter of preference.
