You should look at the optional IBM software "Communications
Utilities/400"
(depending on your release, 5738-CM1, 5763-CM1, 5716-CM1 or 5769-CM1).

Also look for the "Communications Examples" redbooks.
There are at least three, but I think only the latest is available on
the Internet at http://as400bks.rochester.ibm.com

Depends a lot on what type of connectivity you want:
        3270 Emulation 
        File Transfer
        OV/400-SNADS to/from Host system
        Remote Job Entry
