  • Subject: 3570 and 3490 via one 6501 ?

Hello,
I have on order a 3570 B11 that I need to connect to both
our new S20 and our existing 310.
The 310 is currently connected to our 3490 with a 6501.

The System Handbook says that the 6501 can support
both tape devices and that it can support up to 2 tape
units. It also says that a 6501 can drive 2 9337 DASD
Units, but that you cannot have both DASD and tape
being controlled by one 6501.

I had planned on both the 3490 and the 3570 connecting
to the 310 with the one 6501. It needs to be able to control
them at the same time for DUPTAP processing.
Today our CE dropped by and expressed some concern
that the 6501 might not be able to control 2 different
kinds of tape devices simultaneously. He is going to
make some calls and check.

Is anyone doing this ?
Has anyone had problems with 6501s and 2 different
tape devices ?

TIA,
 -Steve Cotes
