IMHO AFAIK
In a word,  No.

If the variable you are using doesn't change from call to call,  Then
the OS only checks(resolves to the object/Authority)  Once. 

It 'keeps a copy' of the variable and verifies that it hasn't changed.

I think the changed either on the last release of the SSY/38 or VERY 
early release of OS/400.
