Garnet,

Welcome to the list and the midrange world.

That's excellent advice from Hank. When I used to give introductory
AS/400 courses I would start out by warning the students not to be to
quick to equate OS/400 concepts with ones that they already knew from
other systems. In my experience this perfectly natural tendency usually
leads to confusion. Hold any preconceptions you may have in abeyance and
approach the system with a fresh mind, rather than trying to tell
youself "Ah, this feature is really what we call (whatever) in the M/F
world." Once the concepts have sunk in (and it does take a little while)
it'll all make sense and the points of similarity and contrast with
other operating systems you know will become clear. You'll also realise
just what a brilliant machine it is to work with.

An awful lot will also go in by osmosis if you keep up with midrange-l
and AS/400 related magazines such as News/400.

Good luck,

Dave...
