Roy,

They would probably both do the job of your 5363 - but I'd go with the
B20 and make sure it has at least 16MB of memory. As you only mention
RPG we'll assume you have no dreaded WSU code ?

HOWEVER, you are forgetting one BIG thing. The hardware is dirt cheap,
BUT you haven't yet priced OS/400, RPG Compiler, and Application
Development Tools (SEU, SDA etc.) for it, have you ? When you do, you
will find that it will be much cheaper to go with a new AS/400 model
150, pre-loaded with OS/400 (it is included in the hardware price) for
US$ 7,995. Plus the cost of a UPS (around $848 for a BEST Fortress
675Va). Don't run a 400 without one !

FYI:
V3R2 software for a B10 or B20 (both in Software Charge group P10):
US DOLLARS

OS/400
                                        $         7,000
Application Development Tools
                          2,875
Query
                                                  1,600
SQL
                                                  1,600
Client Access/400 for Windows (single license)
             275
RPG Compiler
                                          2,300

                        TOTAL $ 15,650 **

The software for the 150 is much cheaper, as it is in processor group
P05, not P10.
The only used models you can pick up that are also in group P05 are:
P01, P02 & P03 (Portables),
F02, 200-2030, 400-2130 (Normal models),
20S-2010, 40S-2109, 40S-2110, 40S-2111 (Server models).

Those old B models don't look so attractive now, do they ! :)

Subject: sys 36 to as/400 upgrade

I have a 5363 system 36 system that I getting ready to upgrade with a
new harddrive. As I was looking for vendors, I stumbled across two
as/400's that are half the price of the harddrive that I wanted for
the 36. One is an as/400 B10 and the other is a AS/400 B20. I am
currently running an RPG II package and have three terminals running.
Does anyone know anything about these AS/400 models and if my RPG
programs would transfer over to them without much hassle?

Thanks,

Roy Schnauss
