Well, I should have been patient and gone thru all of this subject's
threads messages before answering the previous ones.  John has good
answers here.  I have some quick additional comments.

The optimal setting is exactly as stated - it all depends on the server
design, the number and rate of connection requests coming in, the size
of the system and how the storage pools are allocated among other
factors.  We don't document the optimal size due to the large number of
variables.  We should probably at least document the variables - will
put on the todo list!
