Michael,
Local files are handled almost the same way you do files on the AS/400.
Only major requirement is that they be simple text files.  Check the VARPG
web page. Under the "Downloads" button they have some sample code.

Currently the only local database files supported is DB2. Which you
would use embedded SQL to access.  Sorry no examples on this one.

text file into a VARPG program, other than with a C/C++?
