Bob,
        I'm not sure if this pertains to your problem or not but I 
experienced a similar problem when trying to connect Client Access for 
Win95 using the Netsoft Router.  I deleted the Check Service Pack from 
Windows startup and the problem disappeared.  It couldn't hurt.
