  • Subject: IPCS w/Novell 4.1 Backup on 3570

We bought a 3570 Tape Drive last year with the idea that once we got
Novell running on the IPCS it would be a simple matter to backup the
Network on the same tape drive during the middle of the night. (Our
marketing rep helped with this idea!!) After crashing the server
during the day using Novell's SBACKUP to the 3570, (per
instructions in IBM's book) then finding out that we cannot use
library features of the 3570 with the IPCS and SBACKUP needs to run
interactively - I am wondering how people do backup this
configuration! We do not have a night operator and labor
seems to be in short supply in Minnesota. Needless to say, I am not
a happy camper. Are there products out there that work with the 3570
that will accomplish this goal? Backing up the server as one big
glob of space is useless. Ever hear a user ask you to replace ALL of
the files on the server? The IPCS is a great idea for small/medium
size shops, but backing up should be able to be accomplished at the
same time you do the other backups. What do others do?
Thanks - Carole Houghton
