When I first mentioned the private IP address ranges, I didn't have all the
details. Here's a quote from the _OS/400 TCP/IP FastPath Setup V3_ manual
that gives the specifics:

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

APPENDIX1.1.3 IP addresses and the Internet

The address that you use for your AS/400 depends on the nature of the
network you will attach it to. If you are working with a TCP/IP network
that will operate only within
your enterprise, you can choose any address you want from the addresses
that are currently not assigned.

- snip -

But, aside from this, you are free to use any IP addresses in any way that
will work for you. This is because your decisions on how to administer a
private internetwork affect only you and the co-workers with whom you share
the network.

- snip -

There is one final consideration about IP addresses and the Internet we
should discuss. A block of Internet network addresses have been allocated
by the Internet network authority for use only in private networks. IP
address in this range are guaranteed to never be used as a valid host IP
address on the Internet. If an IP router on the Internet sees data for a
system in this address range, it is supposed to silently reject (filter)
it. (5)

You may want to use IP addresses in this range for some or all of the
addresses in your internetwork. Doing this should prevent unauthorized
access to those portions of your network by miscreants on the Internet.

The address ranges that are reserved for private internets are:

          10.0.0.0 -- 10.255.255.255
          172.16.0.0 -- 172.31.255.255
          192.168.0.0 -- 192.168.255.255

 (5) For more information, see Request For Comment (RFC) 1597, "Address
Allocation for Private Internets." http://ds.internic.net/rfc/rfc1597.txt

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

This gives plenty of choice in all classes.
