Re: Help - Simple Coding Problem

Cathy, I'd bet dollars to jelly doughnuts that the fields in the original,
existing file do not map the same as the file description you've created. 


One easy check might be to rename the actual physical file to something
else.  

Then, compile your physical file description, and then your RPG program.  

Then, do a CPYF command, copying your renamed file's data back to the
newly created Physical file. ( use the *MAP *DROP option!) 

Finally, start your query, and do a 2 for changing it, and just run down
through the  > items to see that everything is as you expect.

A word of caution:  wait a few hours after you have read this to actually
try it.  By then corrections, errors, and omissions will have been posted.
