  • Subject: Modem / comms operation

This is a bit off topic (being strictly PC oriented), but I'm hoping
someone shed some light on this problem.

 I have a PC (486 DX2-100, w/ the 16550 UART or a version thereof), DOS
6.22, WfW 3.11, that I can use to dial to internet, including u/l and d/l
of files. When I try to use it w/ the Bitware fax program or other comm
programs (i.e. pcAnywhere) I can't get it to work properly. Bitware won't
dial (even though it says that it's waiting for the other end to respond)
and pcAnywhere won't allow me to establish a session. These were Windows
versions. DOS comms programs I tried allow me to establish a session, but I
can't do file transfers. It just times out w/ no data being transferred.

The modems I've tried are: Hayes Optima + Fax pocket edition and a
PP14400FX.

 Any ideas? TIA.
